At Bedeque Medical Clinic, a variety of non-surgical procedures including dermal fillers which can restore, refresh and rejuvenate skin’s natural fullness and youthful appearance.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid-based gels specifically formulated for facial rejuvenation. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our skin that maintains hydration, volume, and structural integrity. As we age, the natural production of hyaluronic acid diminishes, leading to volume depletion and the formation of lines and folds.
How do fillers work?
Dermal fillers function through three primary mechanisms of action:
- Volumisation – The cross-linked hyaluronic acid molecules provide immediate structural support and volume enhancement to depleted tissue areas
- Hydration – Each molecule of hyaluronic acid can bind up to 1000 times its weight in water, creating optimal tissue hydration and skin quality improvement
- Collagen Stimulation – The presence of hyaluronic acid stimulates fibroblast activity, promoting the synthesis of new collagen and elastin fibers
As we age important components of our skin’s cells slowly deplete namely, collagen and elastin, these components provide structure and volume to the skin. With the loss of collagen and elastin wrinkles, fine lines and volume loss of the mid-face can occur. Dermal fillers can be administered into the different layers of the skin to enhance contour or aid restoration of the natural volume of the face.
At Bedeque Medical Clinic we use only the highest quality products. Following a consultation Dr Siobhán will choose your filler based on specific treatment objectives and which class is optimised for the particular facial area.
Dermal fillers are generally considered safe when administered by a qualified and experienced professional. However, as with any medical procedure, there are risks involved, including infection, allergic reactions, and asymmetry. All patients at Bedeque Medical Clinic will be reviewed at 4wks and 9 months.
